Welcome to the Ontario Rep Hockey League

Hi everyone! We are pleased to welcome you to the Ontario Rep Hockey League (ORHL).

One of the many features of the ORHL is that we play full ice, non-contact at all levels (Novice – Midget) and we do not have any geographic boundaries for our Rep Hockey teams.

Scheduling of our games will be done to minimize disruption to our players’ school studies. No league games will be scheduled weekdays (Monday to Thursday) to ensure sufficient time for homework.

The ORHL currently has in excess of 700 members. During the 2018-2019 season, over 80 teams (members and guest teams) played 965 games.

ORHL league play includes teams from Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph, Burlington, Milton, Cambridge, Brant and London, Ontario Canada.

We are always looking forward to our newest season!

What is the ORHL (Ontario Rep Hockey League)?

The ORHL is the largest Independent Hockey League in Ontario with over 40 league teams from Novice to Midget. Calibre of hockey is "rep level", without specifically using the "AAA", "AA", "A" or "AE" descriptors.

Key aspects ⁄ differentiators of the ORHL:

  • No address boundaries⁄borders; No releases needed – players can play for the team or coach they want without restrictions
  • Full ice Novice program 2011–12
  • No body checking permitted in all divisions (Novice – Midget)
  • No League-scheduled or League sanctioned regular season games Monday through Thursday weeknights
  • Sanctioned by the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union), based out of the US, the AAU is the largest amateur sports organization in North America with over 700,000 members
  • ORHL requires coach and trainer certification

What is the ORHL Season Format?

We have a minimum 40 game season, guaranteed.

The ORHL has chosen to be a school-friendly (or multi-sport friendly) rep hockey league. As such, the only way to achieve a 28-game regular season schedule is to play 3 "Showcase Events" during the year. A "Showcase Event" is akin to a tournament atmosphere, where all teams in the ORHL will amass in a single location (London, Brampton, St Catharines in 2018-2019) to play 4 games each.

Our first event is at the end of September and the ORHL Championship is at the end of March.

  • 28 game regular season = 8 home + 8 away + 12 Showcase games
  • 2 ORHL tournaments plus ORHL Championships, with 4 game minimum in each
  • ORHL Championship Tournament uses the regular season results to seed the teams
  • In total, it is mandatory that all teams play a minimum of 40 games
